چکیده

The upcoming new perspective of the high redshift Universe in the 21 cm line of atomic hydrogen opens possibilities to explore topics of spiral disk evolution, hitherto reserved for the optical regime. The growth of spiral gas disks over Cosmic time can be explored with the new generation of radio telescopes, notably the SKA, and its precursors, as accurately as with the Hubble Space Telescope for stellar disks. Since the atomic hydrogen gas is the building block of these disks, it should trace their formation accurately. Morphology of H I disks can now equally be quantified over Cosmic time. In studies of HST deep fields, the optical or UV morphology of high-redshift galaxy disks have been characterised using a few quantities: concentration (C), asymmetry (A), smoothness (S), second-order-moment (M20), the GINI coefficient (G), and Ellipticity (E). We have applied these parameters across wavelengths and compared them to the HI morphology over the THINGS sample. NGC 3184, an unperturbed disk, and NGC 5194, the canonical 3:1 interaction, serve as examples for quantified morphology. We find that morphology parameters determined in H I are as good or better a tracer of interaction compared to those in any other wavelength, notably in Asymmetry, Gini and M20. This opens the possibility of using them in the parameterization pipeline for SKA precursor catalogues to select interacting or harassed galaxies from their H I morphology. Asymmetry, Gini and M20 may be redefined for use on data-cubes rather than H I column density image.

On The Origin of HI in Galaxies: The Sizes and Masses of HI Photodissociation Regions

Young stars in the disks of galaxies produce HI from their parent H2 clouds by photodissociation. This paper describes the observational evidence for and the morphology of such HI. Simple estimates of the amount of dissociated gas lead to the startling conclusion that much, and perhaps even all, of the HI in galaxy disks can be produced in this way.

The first detection of Far - Infrared emission associated with an extended HI disk ⋆ . The case of NGC 891

Spiral galaxies in the local universe are commonly observed to be embedded in extended disks of neutral hydrogen the so called “extended HI disks”. Based on observations made using the ISOPHOT instrument on board the Infrared Space Observatory, we report the first detection of cold dust in the extended HI disk of a spiral galaxy. The detection was achieved through a dedicated deep Far-Infrared ...

Objectives The use of lasers for the treatment of periimplant hard and soft tissues is now refmore than ever before. Achieving bone integrity. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of Er:YAG, 980 nm and 810 nm diode lasers irradiation on biocompatibility of SLA titanium disks by SaOs2 cells morphology. Methods In this in-vitro study sixty sterile titanium disks with SLA surface were...

HI in Early-type Galaxies

We summarise the HI properties of early-type galaxies, in particular the differences in HI morphologies observed in early-type galaxies of different luminosities. We find that in low-luminosity early-type galaxies the HI is almost always in a disk-like structure, with central surface densities high enough for star formation to occur. In a few luminous early-type galaxies the HI is also in a dis...

The Baryonic Tully - Fisher relation revisited

The Baryonic Tully-Fisher relation (BTF) can be substantially improved when considering that the galactic baryonic mass is likely to consist not only of the detected baryons, stars and gas, but also of a dark baryonic component proportional to the HI gas. The BTF relation is optimally improved when the HI mass is multiplied by a factor of about 3, but larger factors up to 11 − 16 still improve ...
